First real stab at this speed painting everyone is doing. Though I'm not sure if it can be considered true speed art because I did go back and do some extra rendering. In any case, it was a learning experience and I'm satisfied with it. Soooooo, here's the first arena - Ascalon Foothills.

EDIT: Also, this was just done tonight. Landscapes sure are a hell of a lot easier than figure drawing.

Other than those two, my toon is included. I've got other ideas, but I'm trying not to get too ahead of myself here.
Well i will be waiting and stal- i mean followign your thread then ^^

Exclamation

@Smilin: that sounds like a good setting; I've always liked the gothic European theme the Kurzicks have going for them.

@Tzu: Thanks a lot, I appreciate the vote of confidence

@Tommy: Gah, if anything I would hope my artwork would help inspire, not un-inspire you. Whenever I see a really awesome piece of work, I get extremely antsy and feel like being creative.

As for the golems, I'll definitely be using the GW1 versions of both characters. Not really a big fan of how Asura look/sound extremely child like, while the golems aren't nearly as big and intimidating now.

@Hail: I'll let you know if I start getting around to it.

@Blade: Thanks, glad you enjoy my updates!

@Verene: Yeah, sorry about that. Since it was my first "speed paint" thing, I didn't want to get too ambitious with the size of the canvas. I'll be sure to make the next one desktop sized.

NEXT UP: Possibly another landscape & my warrior fighting some really ugly foes. Not sure which order they'll come in.

Thank you much. As far as I know, professionally done (actual concept artists within gaming companies) speed paintings are done in a time frame between 2-4 hours. As for me, the basic structure and foundation took me about 3 hours. After, I spent maybe another hour & a half doing the smaller details.

I went over the time limit I set for myself, but it was my first go at this

@Chicken: flattery will get you everywhere

You guessed it, I am hoping to eventually become a concept artist - or at least that's my dream job. Arenanet is my ideal company since I'm familiar with Guild Wars. Working there along with their other amazing artists would be an awesome experience. Only problem is that their nerve center is located in Washington while I'm down here in LA County. That being said, that opportunity will have to be put on hold.

But on the plus side, Blizzard is located right next door in Irvine and they offer internships for concept artists. With any luck, I can apply there and get a good name under my resume.

Wow, that would be awesome! I wish you the best of luck, I don't see why they wouldn't let someone with such talent as yours be an intern. (Just don't tell them you like GW better xD)

Best to remain optimistic at this point. In the meantime, I'm just going to focus on getting better with the tablet and an all around artist. After seeing some of the work from the other current concept artists, I know that these guys are top of the line.

And I would be royally screwed if anyone were to ask me what my favorite Blizzard game is, lol. Though I should maybe ask Regina if they have another branch out in LA. If there is, my head might explode in sheer anxiousness.

Once again, my fickleness gets the best of me. Another short night's practice with speed painting, though this time I was banging on all cylinders. Figured out that scratchy texture that's commonly used which in turn gave the painting a whole different feel to it. Not to mention, it really makes for some beautiful surfaces.

With that being said, here's Ascalon Foothills Arena B! There was something about the depth in the other painting that bugged me. That and it didn't seem to have that "epic" feel to it. This one seems to express the outskirts of Ascalon a lot better. Overall, I'm pretty excited about this piece.
